Job Title: 1-Year High School Replacement Teacher

Description: Fraser Valley Adventist Academy is seeking a replacement teacher for a one-year maternity leave. This will be a grade nine homeroom position with emphasis on English, social studies and applied skills. The position will begin August 17, 2020 and end June 30, 2021. Applicants must have a teaching degree and should have or be eligible for a BC teaching certificate. It would also be beneficial for the applicant to have completed the Bible ENCOUNTER training. Description: Robson Valley Junior Academy is located in McBride, half-way between Jasper, AB and Prince George BC. RVJA offers grades K-9 as well as grades 10-12 in our WCAS Learning Centre. McBride is a small town, but what we lack in shopping or fast food options, we more than make up for in scenic views, and numerous outdoor activities. In the summer, there are cabins to hike to, rivers to canoe, wild berries to pick, and wilderness to camp in. In the winter, there are forests to snowshoe, cross-country skiing trails to explore, and mountains to snowmobile on.
McBride SDA church is extremely supportive of the school, the parents are very involved, and the students are eager to meet their new teacher! We are currently looking for an enthusiastic elementary teacher for a multi-grade classroom. It is very important that our teacher be deeply rooted in the Adventist faith, and that they are passionate about sharing the love of Jesus with their students every day.

The school is situated on acreage with an incredible view of Elk Lake, in almost every classroom, and wonderful opportunities for outdoor education. Our mission statement is to encourage children to love Jesus, love others and love learning. Because we are a mission, our teachers need to be in a strong relationship with Jesus leading them to actively engage in connecting children with the Creator, each other and our community. It is important that our teachers take their roles as leaders very seriously. The majority of our students are non SDA Christian. Additionally, most of our children are college or university bound. Parents take a keen interest in knowing that their children’s education is of the finest quality. Teachers at LCS need to be well organized, professional, friendly and able to communicate well.

The successful candidate will have the following: a Bachelor of Education degree, BC teacher certification (or an application in process), and Canadian citizenship or appropriate documentation to work in Canada. We are looking for a teacher who is passionate about teaching children in a creative, collaborative and engaging way. Our teachers must also be organized and able to use the provincial learning objectives to create lesson and unit plans that are imaginative, project based and comprehensive. Teachers must have excellent skills in communication and be able to promote and demonstrate what is being taught, to parents. We are also planning to launch an organic, market garden to teach our children practical skills and engage them in public outreach. Any skills in gardening or outdoor education would be favourable.
